چکیده

Computing shortest paths is a fundamental primitive for several social network applications including sociallysensitive ranking, location-aware search, social auctions and social network privacy. Since these applications compute paths in response to a user query, the goal is to minimize latency while maintaining feasible memory requirements. We present ASAP, a system that achieves this goal by exploiting the structure of social networks. ASAP preprocesses a given network to compute and store a partial shortest path tree (PSPT) for each node. The PSPTs have the property that for any two nodes, each edge along the shortest path is with high probability contained in the PSPT of at least one of the nodes. We show that the structure of social networks enable the PSPT of each node to be an extremely small fraction of the entire network; hence, PSPTs can be stored efficiently and each shortest path can be computed extremely quickly. For a real network with 5 million nodes and 69 million edges, ASAP computes a shortest path for most node pairs in less than 49 microseconds per pair. ASAP, unlike any previous technique, also computes hundreds of paths (along with corresponding distances) between any node pair in less than 100 microseconds. Finally, ASAP admits efficient implementation on distributed programming frameworks like MapReduce.

The Shortcut Problem - Complexity and Approximation

During the last years, speed-up techniques for DIJKSTRA’s algorithm have been developed that make the computation of shortest paths a matter of microseconds even on huge road networks. The most sophisticated methods enhance the graph by inserting shortcuts, i.e. additional edges, that represent shortest paths in the graph. Until now, all existing shortcut-insertion strategies are heuristics and...

Efficient Shortest Paths on Massive Social Graphs (Invited Paper)

Analysis of large networks is a critical component of many of today’s application environments, including online social networks, protein interactions in biological networks, and Internet traffic analysis. The arrival of massive network graphs with hundreds of millions of nodes, e.g. social graphs, presents a unique challenge to graph analysis applications. Most of these applications rely on co...

ALGORITHMS FOR BIOBJECTIVE SHORTEST PATH PROBLEMS IN FUZZY NETWORKS

We consider biobjective shortest path problems in networks with fuzzy arc lengths. Considering the available studies for single objective shortest path problems in fuzzy networks, using a distance function for comparison of fuzzy numbers, we propose three approaches for solving the biobjective prob- lems. The rst and second approaches are extensions of the labeling method to solve the sing...

Candidate Sets for Alternative Routes in Road Networks (Extended Abstract)

Introduction and Related Work Routing services have evolved over the past years. Providing only a shortest path is no longer enough. Users expect to be presented with a set of reasonable alternatives. We show how to engineer previous algorithms to provide reasonable alternative paths with better efficiency. Building on these results, we introduce the concept of candidate via nodes to further sp...

A New Algorithm for the Discrete Shortest Path Problem in a Network Based on Ideal Fuzzy Sets

A shortest path problem is a practical issue in networks for real-world situations. This paper addresses the fuzzy shortest path (FSP) problem to obtain the best fuzzy path among fuzzy paths sets. For this purpose, a new efficient algorithm is introduced based on a new definition of ideal fuzzy sets (IFSs) in order to determine the fuzzy shortest path. Moreover, this algorithm is developed for ...
